I love leather bag because of it’s longevity and it’s durable too. I have always stored my bag in a dustbag so that it doesn’t get dirty or ruined when it comes into contact with other bags that I store in the same place. Recently, i took out my very first Coach handbag that was given to me by my husband about 6 years ago as our anniversary gift. Since the color of the bag is light grey, it looked very very dirty. I didn’t clean the bag before storing it at that time (Maybe, I should make it a priority to clean the bags before storing it). So, I decided to clean it before using it. What you will need for this is a clean white cotton cloth and the leather cleaner, that’s all.
I didnt know what kind of cleaner I should use to clean leather stuff. I decided to look for it in the internet and I found a whole loads of them. So, if you are wondering what type of cleaner you should use, do look up in the internet. I would highly suggest to get cleaners that can clean and moisturise the leather as well. The moisturising part is very important because if you don’t, your bag will be very dry and it might not last long. Anyway, the leather cleaner I got is Cosway brand which cost me about RM9.90 on promotion. It cleanses and moisturises at the same time.
Please make sure that you test the product first by rubbing a little on a section that is concealed to make sure that the colour doesn’t come off or ruins the bag.
First, I made sure the bag is empty. I realised there was some sweets in the front pocket which has melted a bit :P. I had to clean the lining, luckily the lining was a thick cloth, so I put a little bit of soap and washed it. I just dried it with a cloth and it was good to go for the next step.
- Choose a section of the bag.
- Spray the section with the leather cleaner and I let it sit on it for about 30 seconds.
- Take a cotton cloth and rubbed it in a circular motion. (Depending on how dirty your bag is, you can see the dirt on your cloth, mine was quite dirty, so, my white cloth turned a little brown :p)
- Repeat step 1 to 3 until you have covered the whole bag
- Let it dry for about an hour.
It’s advisable to do this before you go to sleep, so that the bag will have ample of time to dry. Sorry, I don’t have a picture of the bag before I started cleaning as I only decided to take a picture after cleaning the bag.
